Emmerdale’s Fiona Wade warns angry Priya will lash out at Leyla and Ellis

Emmerdale star Fiona Wade has opened up about what's in store for Priya Sharma following the catastrophic events of survival week. The nail-biting action that unfolded during Emmerdale's epic Super Soap Week saga left Priya with devastating injuries after she ran into the burning maize maze.

Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and murdering Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) also ended up in hospital as a result of the action and poor Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) breathed her last breath in the blaze. But it's clear that Priya will be the one most affected by the tragedy that unfolded.

In a conversation with OK! and other press outlets, Fiona opened up about what's in store for her character.

The 42 year old hinted at a "long and difficult journey" and confirmed that Priya is "angry" with those around her which causes her to "lash out" people like Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Ellis Chapman (Aaron Anthony).

"The recovery process is so difficult and all-consuming for Priya. She does want Ellis' support. She does really like him and they've fallen for each other, but there's this thing – this roadblock – that got in the way," Fiona explained.

"They're having crossed wires and every time he goes to say something nice she takes it as though he doesn't want to be there or thinks he's just being nice for the sake of it because he pities her."

Fiona continued: "She's angry at the situation. She's angry that it's happened. She doesn't really understand why this is happening to her.

"Jai isn't really telling her the truth about what's gone on and who's been hurt or what's happened, so when she does find out she just lashes out at everyone."

Matters are made worse when Priya is told she will need a second skin graft after an infection inhibits her recovery.

Unaware of how bad her injuries are or what they look like, Priya asks Leyla to take off her bandages, but is met with a refusal.

Fiona explained: "Leyla realises that for the scars to heal the way they're meant to you cannot unravel the dressings. She really stands up to Priya which obviously doesn't go very well.

"Priya is just angry and upset and desperate and lost. She needs her family, friends and even Ellis around her, but she cant reach out to them."

When asked how she felt about taking on the storyline, Fiona said: "It's been an honour to be able to play and have that responsibility given to me and I just wanted to do it justice for so many reasons."

She also teased that it would be "devastating" if Priya ever found out about Meena's involvement in the accident.

Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
