Carla Connor (Alison King) has left Coronation Street after Stephen Reid’s (Todd Boyce) actions once again put her life in danger.
Stephen has been drugging Carla over the past few weeks, convinced that if she thinks her mental health is deteriorating, she’ll leave her role at Underworld and he can take over.
This week, Stephen came close to once again having his secret exposed when businessman Rufus approached him and revealed he knows all about him drugging Carla.
While Peter (Chris Gascoyne) has been convinced his partner isn’t well, Carla has remained suspicious, aware that the symptoms only present themselves for a short period of time and then, after, she’s back to normal.
This mindset led Carla to going back to work again during Friday’s (March 17) instalment of the ITV soap.
Watched by her colleagues as she made a cup of tea, Carla ended up dropping a mug on the floor, injuring herself as she attempted to tidy up.
Back at the flat, as Carla rested following another appointment at the doctors, Stephen had managed to steal her keys.
Letting himself in, Stephen turned the grill on and walked out so eventually, the appliance caught on fire.
Fortunately, the arrival of Roy (David Neilson) meant no-one was seriously injured but the ordeal terrified Carla as she accepted that her psychosis was returning.
Carla realised that she needed some help so, with no other option, she was driven out of Weatherfield by Peter, as a concerned Roy watched on.
Meanwhile, in the factory, Stephen was alone drinking.
He had a smug smile on his face as he looked at his new empire.
Finally, he had done it.
