Doctor Who, Broadchurch and Des are just some of the TV shows that David Tennant has appeared in – often as the lead protagonist – and for which he has received critical acclaim for his acting on screen. The Scottish actor has been cast in more than 80 different shows across his career – but are you aware of just what he’s exactly been in?

David Tennant began acting in 1987 and indeed made his professional debut when he was just 16.

The 50-year-old has won several BAFTA and Emmy awards for his on-screen performances and has long been recognised as one of the standout actors of his generation.

However, despite his profile, you may not have recognised his voice or face in several shows in which he has taken part.

So, here are five TV shows that David Tennant has acted in that you may not remember him from.

Takin’ Over the Asylum

One of Tennant’s first big roles came in the BBC Scotland production of Takin’ Over the Asylum, in 1994.

Takin’ Over the Asylum was centred around a hospital radio station in a Glasgow psychiatric hospital.

The actor starred in all six episodes that were released as Campbell Bain – a 19-year-old enthusiastic contributor to the station.

Foyle’s War

Tennant appeared in one episode of Foyle’s War during 2002.

The show was a British detective drama set during and shortly after WW2, which aired on ITV for nearly 13 years.

Tennant acted in the role of Theo Howard and only appeared on screen briefly during the episode.

Just before he began acting in Doctor Who, Tennant appeared in the BBC musical drama, Blackpool.

The show’s plot focused on the murder of a young man in a Blackpool arcade and how it affected the people involved with the arcade and the investigation.

Tennant took on the role of Detective Inspector Peter Carlisle and featured in all six episodes that were aired.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

In 2012, Tennant voiced the character of Huyang in the animated TV series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The show aired for seven seasons and is set before the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The character, Huyang, was a droid who taught Jedi younglings how to construct their lightsabers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Between 2015 and 2016, Tennant was a voice actor for another robot. This time though it was in the animated TV series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

He appeared as the character, Fugitoid, across 15 episodes that were broadcast on the children’s TV network, Nickelodeon.
