Matt Hancock has been described as a “superstar” by a vocal supporter on Jeremy Vine. The caller contacted the Jeremy Vine show on Monday to defend the Health Secretary who is currently mired in scandal after CCTV footage captured him breaking social distancing rules with close aide Gina Coladangelo. Caller Kate from Cambridgeshire told panellists: “We need to remember he is only human.
“Matt Hancock was like a superstar and when superstars go home after the show they are on some different plane to us normal human beings,” she continued.
“They just have a different outlook on life and I think people in this country are too judgemental.
“I would not want your job Jeremy because I probably couldn’t do it.”
However, panellist Emily Carver strongly disagreed with the caller’s defence of the Health Secretary.
She said: “Sure that is definitely true but he was the one that was making these rules so it is not really a case of two wrongs make a right, is it?
“He has created these rules that people can’t abide by.”
Ms Carver added: “What about my brother who wasn’t able to see his girlfriend for however many months. What about people who weren’t able to see their parents on their death bed.”
“What about all those people who gave up fundamental liberties with this whole period and then see Matt Hancock’s given an easy ride? It makes no sense at all.”
