Carol, 59, has been a weather presenter on BBC Breakfast for the best part of two decades and has become a regular face starring alongside the hosts of the show. The forecaster’s appearances on the programme haven’t always gone to plan and one moment last year has left an unforgettable memory on her mind. It went so badly, the meteorologist knew she was “in trouble” with BBC bosses.

The moment in question came last summer when restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic were beginning to lift.

Stepping away from the studio, the forecaster took a trip to Greenwich Park and watched as dog walkers and joggers made up the background.

What the presenter said at the time was: “Good morning everybody and Greenwich Park is one of the oldest enclosed of the royal parks and look at it.

“Fabulous. The sun is beating down. We’ve seen lots of doggers – lots of… not doggers, of course,” she continued.

Having made an x-rated blunder, she corrected herself by saying: “Lots of dog walkers and joggers around here through the course of this morning.”

Almost a year later, the weather presenter has spoken out on the moment and the reaction she received from those behind the camera.

Carol explained in an interview with Radio Times: “I rehearsed this with the cameraman a couple of times, and then I did it for real.

“‘It’s absolutely beautiful, what a view. We’ve been watching the doggers all morning.’ And then what’s worse is that I said it again!

“I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The security man was doubled over so if I look at him, I’m going to laugh.”

“And then the person in my ear said, ‘Graphics on!’ and I thought, ‘Uh oh, I’m in trouble’,” the forecaster added.

Viewers gave quite a comical reaction to the moment, with one writing: “So commendable how you kept a straight face – ever the professional.”

Another posted: “How you managed to carry on throughout that? We salute you,” whilst a third remarked: “Morning Carol, spotted any doggers out yet?”

“Good old Carol. Joggers or doggers, she doesn’t care. She showed a far too good a knowledge of the activities in Greenwich Park the other morning,” a fourth shared.

Discussing the matter a little further, the weather presenter said she felt “awful” for the blunder as it came out “so innocently”.

The mistake occurred as the meteorologist was on location and didn’t have an autocue to read her script from.

Explaining how she usually works without a monitor, the forecaster added she usually recites everything from memory.

After the incident happened, the weather reporter ended up apologising to her editor, who understood the error.

Unfortunately, the blunder had gone viral and generated a huge conversation on all social media platforms.

Carol has never been able to understand the reaction to the moment as she received comments from across the globe.

“It was like blimey O’Reilly, it was a slip of the tongue,” the forecaster commented and from the said mistake, Carol has been careful about what she says ever since.

However, despite the slip-up, the meteorologist has still seen her fan base grow considerably having been working throughout the pandemic.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
