The Tourist is a new BBC series set to air early in 2022, which was written by Baptiste writers Harry and Jack Williams. Jamie Dornan plays the male lead The Man, who is hunted across Australia all while trying to regain his lost memories.

However, in a new interview, the Fifty Shades of Grey actor opened up about what filming for the BBC series was like.

He admitted it was the longest show he’d very filmed in his career.

“It was a huge commitment,” the actor began. “I had very little time off, so it was very extreme, but I loved it.”

Despite being away from home, Jamie insisted his wife, Amelia Warner, and daughters Dulcie, Elva and Alberta went with him.

He continued to the Radio Times: “I’m not going away from my family. I have a two-week rule.

“Although I broke it last week because I ended up having to stay in LA longer than I thought.

“For The Tourist, they came with me for every step of it. My kids went to school. It was marvellous.

“It was our eldest daughter’s eighth birthday recently, and she spent an hour and a half on Zoom with her Aussie mates at 8am.”

The Tourist will air at the beginning of 2022 with an international premiere confirmed over the coming months.

In the UK, the series will debut on New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1.

Leading the cast is Jamie as The Man, who is famously known for playing Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.

Joining him is Shalom Brune-Franklin as Luci, Damon Herriman as DI Lachlan Rogers, Danielle MacDonald as Helen Chambers, and Alex Dimitriades as Kostas.

Olafur Darri Olafsson will also play Billy, Greg Larsen as Ethan Krum, and Damien Strouthos as Matteo.

The plot follows The Man, a British tourist in Australia who is continually chased by a massive truck that is attempting to run him off the road.

Following his crash, The Man wakes up in hospital but has lost his memory, including his name and identity.

However, people from his past come back to find and silence him, all while he desperately tries to discover the truth about himself.

Speaking to the BBC, about the upcoming drama, the creators explained: “We’re hugely excited about this show.

“It’s tonally breaking new ground for us and having Jamie Dornan on board is the icing on the Australian cake.”

The story will be told over six episodes, although the BBC has not confirmed whether it will be a self-contained story, or if there are plans for a second season.

The Tourist will premiere on Saturday, January 1, 2022, on BBC One in the UK. The show will debut on HBO Max in early 2022 in the USA.
