Kate Garraway in desperate race to clear flooded house for son Billy's 12th birthday party after storms ruin plans

KATE Garraway faces a race against time to clear her flooded house in time for son Billy's 12th birthday.

The broadcaster's London home fell victim to a severe storm on Monday night just days before she was due to host a party for her little boy.

Alongisde sick husband Derek Draper's dad, Kate has spent the week trying to dry out the house.

Today's scorching conditions will have given her a major boost, but she remained uncertain while speaking to Alex Beresford and Charlotte Hawkins on today's GMB.

She said: "My weather week has been… I have lived the weather of the week, Alex."

She went on: "Severe flooding in the storms on Monday night so woke up on Tuesday morning to find…

"Well we live on a hill. So you come in the door at one level and you go down the steps to the back garden – everything underneath completely flooded."

A sympathetic Charlotte said: "Oh no."

And Kate added: "Completely flood. Total nuisance. Total nightmare.

"Thanks to Grandad, Derek’s dad, and Auntie Di, we have managed to clear it all out."

Revealing that Billy's party is at risk of cancellation, she continued: "The only problem is that it’s Billy’s birthday tomorrow."

Total nuisance. Total nightmare

Charlotte replied: "Oh you’ve got some good weather which is lovely then."

Kate said: "Well, that’s exactly what I thought. It’s absolutely lovely, we’ve got good weather and it’s going to be a paddling pool party.

"The only problem is in the clearout we’ve thrown away the pool."

It's another blow to the family who have already suffered 18 months of hell after Derek was ravaged by coronavirus.

The 53-year-old returned to the family home from hospital in April, over a year after falling seriously ill with the virus.

He is now conscious, but Kate recently said the illness has "devastated" him and left him unable to move.
