The Kominsky Method is a popular comedy-drama airing on Netflix made by the creator of The Big Bang Theory – Chuck Lorre. The series features Michael Douglas as Sandy Kominsky, a veteran star who now works as an acting coach in Hollywood. Netflix has renewed the series for a third season, but fans were sad to learn it will be the final installment.
Why has the Kominsky Method been cancelled?
The series made its debut on Netflix in November 2018 and it follows acting coach Kominsky, who had a brief spell as a successful actor.
In January 2019 the series was renewed for a second season, which landed on October 2019 and in July 2020 it was renewed for a third and final season.
There is no indication of how many half-hour episodes will form the third and final season at this time.
Filming for the third season has not yet started due to the coronavirus outbreak, but fans are hoping it will be later this year.
Deadline announced the news of the final season, but there is no indication as to why the series is ending.

Lorre said: “The Kominsky Method has been a true passion project for me and it’s been an incredible experience to see the warm response from both audiences and critics.
“I’m excited to wrap up the story with this final chapter.”
Golden Globe-winning actor Douglas also spoke to Deadline and he said he has been “blessed and fortunate to be working with good material”.
Douglas also acts as one of the executive producers on the series, and he stars alongside actress Lisa Edelstein, who plays his on-screen daughter Phoebe.
She was thrilled at the news of the renewal, saying on Instagram: “It’s official, #TheKominskyMethod (and Phoebe) return to @netflix for the third and final season.
“No idea when, since, you know, #pandemic, but I’m so happy.”
Neither actor has made any comment about why the series is coming to an end after the third season.
Season two follows Kominsky and his friend and agent Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin) as they face different challenges in LA.
The former actor has his own health issues to deal with, as well as family issues as his daughter brings home a new man.
His agent finds himself getting together with a former partner Madelyn (Jane Seymour).
The third season may be the final one simply because there is nothing left to tell of Kominsky’s story, as his character is feeling the impacts of old age.

Douglas is now in his mid-70s and he has suffered his own health problems in the past, including battling with cancer.
There is a possibility he is taking a step back from lead roles as his own health must be a priority.
The star is on Instagram and he regularly keeps fans updated with his plans.
Fans have taken the news of the renewal as a bitter-sweet update, with one fan saying on Twitter: “Hooray for the renewal, boo for final season.”
Another fan said: “Great show, but it feels like it cannot go on for much longer before it was going to shake things up just for the sake of fresh and new.

“A fourth season probably could’ve been squeezed out of it, but I’m just happy it’s getting a finale. Still odd, it was well-received.”

Critics have said it illustrates a poignant message about later life and ageing.
Fans should prepare for an emotional ending as there is bound to be a tear-jerking moment or two in the final season.
