Dan Walker and Katie McGlynn were the seventh and eighth contestants to be revealed to be joining the Strictly Come Dancing cast this year. Speaking to BBC Breakfast hosts Louise Minchin and Jon Kay, they revealed how they were both feeling. Louise joked with Dan that she wouldn’t be on the show when he started the series, hinting at her final date on the BBC.

Louise recently made the decision to leave BBC Breakfast after almost 20 years.

She announced “it is time I stopped setting my alarm for 03:40,” and is looking forward to “lots of lie-ins”.

Louise said she would be leaving “sometime after the summer” and would be taking lots of happy memories away with her.

“We’ve had fun times. We’ve had some incredible guests. I love hearing peoples stories, I love being able to tell their stories,” she told viewers at the time.

It’s not known when Louise’s final day will be but speaking to Dan on Tuesday, she hinted it could be as soon as next month.

Louise was stunned to find out her long-standing co-host was the eighth star on Strictly, exclaiming: “I don’t believe it, Mr Walker!”

She quickly voiced her opinion on the move, admitting: “What I’m really annoyed about is no one has told me anything, Dan!”

However, she later went on to explain she wouldn’t be able to support him after results shows on a Monday morning.

“Dan I will not forget this, it goes in my memory bank,” Louise warned Dan.

“I may not be here on BBC Breakfast when you’re doing it all the time, but I will be watching you from home and I might even vote… for you Katie.”

Could this be a hint Louise will be leaving BBC Breakfast in September just as the new series of Strictly begins?

Fans are currently waiting to hear who will take over from Louise and co-host alongside Dan.

Speaking earlier in the year when she announced her departure, Louise said: “Anybody who watches will be very well aware my passion is endurance sport, and I will absolutely continue to do that.

“I’ve got lots of really exciting adventures planned. I’m trying to write a book about that as well.

“And I’ll continue with my podcast, which is all about the mental and physical benefits of sport and exercise.”

Dan was shocked by the news but posted a tribute to Louise on his social media pages.

Alongside a collage of pictures of them both, Dan wrote on Twitter: “This feels like a break-up! What am I going to do without Louise?

“Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast – I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.

“My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily at am on BBC One.
