Mazikeen (played by Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Eve (Inbar Lavi) were put through the wringer in the latest season of Lucifer. Thankfully, the unlikely pairing of a demon from Hell and the world’s first woman finally decided to make a go of it in the latest outing on Netflix, but will their relationship remain intact in season six?
Principal Lucifer star Lesley-Ann Brandt has opened up on some of Mazikeen’s toughest moments in the second half of the Biblical drama’s fifth season.
Still coping with being rejected by her mother, Lilith (L. Scott Caldwell), Maze had to earn her way back into Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) good books after striking up an alliance with his twin brother, Michael.
Thankfully, the demonic bounty hunter is in a much better place coming to the end of the show’s penultimate season finale.
A number of fans were finally given what they’ve been praying for since season four, as Maze and Eve finally began a new relationship.
However, their romantic reunion wasn’t without some considerable hurdles, as Maze believed her new girlfriend’s non-celestial status could eventually cause problems down the line.
Although Eve evidently has a much longer lifespan than most humans, the new Queen of Hell is still weary of the fact she may eventually have to watch her partner age and die.
In a recent unpacking for TVLine, Lesley-Ann Brandt spoke more about the fan favourite couple’s blossoming romance, and how their relationship could look by the end of season six.
Touching on their first encounter in season 5b, Brandt began: “Talk about picking at a scab.”
“That’s a wound that hasn’t fully healed either, and it is kind of connected to the rejection she felt from her mother.”
Eve first makes herself known as a rival masked bounty hunter pursuing the same target as Mazikeen, which ends in disaster for the first woman.
Recovering in hospital, Mazikeen admits her feelings, offering up her mother’s ring of immortality for a chance at eternal life together.
Fresh from her mother turning her away, Maze took Eve’s passing up of the ring as yet another rejection, and their relationship was once again on the rocks.

Brandt explained: “She saw Eve as rejecting her as opposed to needing time to figure out herself, so she goes into Maze Mode.
“Which is pushing down everything she’s feeling and then trying to find the thing that will fix it, which in her case is a soul.”
The Maze star also drew comparisons with Lucifer’s tentative relationship with Chloe Decker (Lauren German) this season, which also went through some considerable ups and downs.
Although the demonic Queen of Hell and her new partner ended the season in a good place, they could still face some tough decisions in the next season.
Finally, Brandt teased: “It’s a blessing [to find that love].
“Whether Maze and Eve work out, just to be able to have felt that and lived that, I think, is the blessing.”
Maze and Eve’s romance has even overtaken ‘Deckerstar’ in the eyes of some viewers, so their fingers are tightly crossed they’ll be able to make it through Lucifer’s final ten episodes.
Lucifer Season 5, Part 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
