Phillip Schofield makes savage dig at Boris Johnson as This Morning turns tense

Phillip Schofield couldn't help but make a cheeky dig at Boris Johnson when the Prime Minister was mentioned during the latest edition of This Morning.

The 59-year-old presenter and temporary host Rochelle Humes were waiting patiently for a lucky caller to answer the phone to play Spin To Win during Tuesday's show when he made the savage remark.

As the first caller accidentally answered the phone saying "hello" and not the passphrase, chef Gino D'Acampo, who was in the kitchen, said the show was a "shambles" and suggested they should try giving the Prime Minister a ring.

Phillip jokingly responded to Gino: "He's in the garden having a drink."

Gino could be seen with a cheeky grin on his face after Phillip's tongue in cheek remark regarding claims that Mr Johnson attended parties at Number 10 Downing Street during the national lockdown in a bid to fight coronavirus.

However, there was no need to call the PM as another viewer managed to answer the phone and gave the correct passphrase to win a whooping cash prize.

The reported gatherings at Number 10 were also discussed earlier in the show.

Phillip was awkwardly shut down by royal editor Camilla Tominey after he quizzed her about breaching lockdown rules.

During the This Morning View segment, Camila explained: "I've been in and out of Downing Street and everyone knows if you've gone in."

Phillip added: "Not during lockdown? You didn't go to any of those parties did you?"

A gobsmacked Camila replied: "Of course I didn't. Thank you very much. I love all this 'You were all at it'. No I wasn't"

Phillip said: "I've got to ask like you would have asked me."

Camila added: "I mean for press conferences and things."

It was confirmed on Monday that Rochelle will step in for regular host Holly Willoughby for a number of weeks.

Marvin Humes' wife initially announced the news on her Instagram page, posting a chic snap as she rocked a pair of brown leather trousers and a ribbed cream jumper, along with a pair of suave brown heeled sandals.

Rochelle explained: "Back at @thismorning. In for my girl @hollywilloughby for the next few weeks… Hope to see you at 10."

The songstress grinned in the series of candid snaps, clearly chuffed to be taking up the seat next to presenter Phillip in Holly's absence.
