Queen Charlotte star had neck brace for ‘record breaking wig

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story trailer

Next month, Bridgerton fans will get to see the iconic Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel) ascend the throne in her very own Netflix spin-off series. Although when speaking about the elaborate costumes seen in the show, the 53-year-old confessed she had to wear a neck brace at times.

The upcoming prequel kicks off this May with Netflix viewers able to see Queen Charlotte’s rise to power in the period drama.

In the six-part series, fans will watch the young royal, who will be played by India Amarteifio, fall in love with King George before their marriage.

Queen Charlotte will showcase the societal shift which established the Ton, seen in the Bridgerton world decades later.

It’s no secret the royal is known for her over-the-top costumes and grand hairstyles in the original series which are expected to be more extreme in the upcoming prequel.

Promoting the show ahead of its debut, actresses Golda and India appeared on Tuesday’s instalment of The One Show to speak to hosts Alex Jones and Emma Willis.

As Alex commented on the fantastic looks seen in Bridgerton, Emma agreed saying: “It takes you off into a world that you know nothing about.”

Speaking about Queen Charlotte’s wigs seen in both series, The One Show host commented: “They look so heavy and you’ve got such poise and elegance.

“But the wigs, they look like they’re about to topple sometimes!”

Agreeing, Golda said: “Yeah, Queen Charlotte has a record-breaking wig, I think, in all of the series that I had to wear.”

Not wanting to give too much away about the extreme hair piece set to feature in the prequel, the 53-year-old told the presenters viewers will know the wig she’s speaking about when it appears on-screen.

Emma added: “Honestly when I started watching it one of the first things I said when I saw you was, ‘Wow, that is one big wig’. It’s got to weigh-“

Although India quickly cut off the host to make a revelation about some of the hairpieces the actress has to wear.

As the two hosts were stunned at the revelation, the Netflix star confirmed: ”Yeah, I’ve had to wear it a few times on the show, they are heavy.

“But, they are works of art aren’t they? I feel very proud.”
