Rick and Morty season six is in the making and the new outing will air on Adult Swim and E4. The fifth season has just come to an end and eager fans are wondering how much of a wait they now have for the new episodes. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about when to expect season six.
When is Rick and Morty season six out?
In 2018, the American network Adult Swim announced it had renewed the adult animation series for another 70 episodes.
The news came shortly after the release of the third season, with two more instalments following after this.
With this in mind, there are still 50 episodes left to air, which should span across five more seasons.
The release of the sixth season is difficult to judge as there is no pattern to when the premiere dates fall.
However, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland vowed fans will not have to wait as long for the new season.
Back in July 2020, Harmon announced that writing had already begun on season six.
There was also an indication that multiple seasons were being worked on at once, so this suggests only a small amount of time will be needed to finish season six.
Back in August 2021, writer Cody Ziglar said season seven had already wrapped, so this implies season six is already in the bag.
The next instalment could arrive on screens early in 2022, so hopefully, fans will not have to wait long.
There was almost a year between seasons four and five airing, but this should not be the case for season six.
Sadly, there is no trailer for the upcoming season yet but fans should be treated to a teaser soon.
The season five finale, titled Rickmurai Jack, revealed much-needed answers about Rick Sanchez’s (Roiland) origin story.
His wife Diane (Kari Wahlgren) was killed by a bomb and Rick made it his mission to found the evil Rick who was responsible.
However, he never found the culprit and instead settled for an alternate life with daughter Beth (Sarah Chalke) and grandson Morty (Roiland).
Evil Morty also makes a comeback in the final episode and he entered a new dimension.
Fans were grateful for some answers but there is still plenty from the multiple universes yet to explore.
They have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the season so far, with one saying: “That Rick and Morty season finale was insane!!”
Another said: “You can’t leave me on a cliffhanger. What is that orange/yellow portal? What happening?”
Some have even called for an Evil Morty spin-off as they are keen to find out more about the antagonist.
The official Twitter account for the series is yet to give anything away regarding the new episodes.
All we know is the sixth season should arrive in the first half of 2022, if not earlier.
The new season is likely to be made up of 10 episodes, like all of the seasons previously.
The Adult Swim Festival, which usually takes place in November, could reveal more detail about season six.
Fans are usually treated to rough takes of new episodes far in advance of the season airing.
With this in mind, there could be a significant update before the year is out.
Rick and Morty season 6 will air on Adult Swim and E4.
