Royal fans will have noticed a reference to a famous quote from Princess Diana in the latest season of The Crown.
In the ninth episode of The Crown season 3, entitled Imbroglio, Princess Anne (Erin Doherty) has an honest conversation with her mother, father, and grandmother about the relationship between her brother Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) and then-lover Camilla Shand (Emerald Fennell).
Anne reveals her approval for the relationship but says only "as long as he’s prepared for there to always be three people in the relationship."
The Princess is referring to Camilla's on-off romance with long-term love interest Andrew Parker Bowles (Andrew Buchan), who Anne also had an affair with and resultantly becomes Camilla's first husband.
However, many will have seen parallels with a famous quote from Charles' first wife Princess Diana following the collapse of their marriage in her iconic BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.
Referring to Charles' ongoing adulterous affair with Camilla while they were married, Diana, Princess of Wales said: "Well, there were three of us in this marriage. So it was a bit crowded."
O'Connor and Fennell are due to reprise their roles as Charles and Camilla in the fourth season, while newcomer Emma Corrin will make her debut as Lady Diana Spencer who will go on to become Charles' wife and the mother of his sons in the fourth run of the series.
But how will the "People's Princess" be portrayed?
The Crown season 3 is available now on Netflix.
