Stephen Mulhern says he’ll only appear on I’m A Celeb if he’s offered £3million

Catchphrase presenter Stephen Mulhern has ruled out the possibility of appearing as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! due to his fear of the eating challenges – unless he's offered millions.

Stephen, 44, who also presents on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, would be a likely choice to enter the jungle in November, but ITV execs may need to think about raising the star’s salary to hopefully tempt him to join.

Talking to The Mirror, Stephen said: "I’ve never been asked on the jungle, but they know what I’m like, and I don’t know if you’re aware, but in terms of eating I’ve got a very, very plain palette and the thought of putting stuff in my mouth… I don’t know if I could do it.

"I think that show is the only thing that could break me, because the idea of doing the stunts and the heights and the jumping out of a plane, that would have to be top dollar to even consider it."

The star added: "How much are we talking for me to do it? I can’t believe we are talking about this but how about £3million and I’ll do it?! Alright if you can get half that I’m in!"

Presenter Stephen also fronts ITV’s In For A Penny, which is back on screens this weekend.

While filming in Sheffield, Stephen gave the general public the chance to win anything from the price of their petrol to £1,000 in the final game.

Though Stephen enjoys doing shows like In For A Penny and Catchphrase, the star would also like to take on more serious styles of presenting.

He admitted he'd love to do a series like Noel’s Christmas Presents as "it showed an emotive side of things", a side of himself he'd like to show.

The star, who's life away from cameras is practically unknown, added that people never get to see the side his family and friends see, but he'd like them to.

And speaking of his family, Stephen revealed he’s finally seen his parents face-to-face for the first time in months.

He also believes that lockdown has made him more grateful for the support from his family throughout his career.
