The Mandalorian: Disney release trailer for Star Wars show
A fresh slate of announcements from Disney isn’t the only thing giving Star Wars fans hope for more exciting crossovers with The Mandalorian. As Disney Plus subscribers get hyped for the science fiction series upcoming finale this Friday, a major player from the extended universe is heavily tipped to make an appearance.
The fate of animated hero Ezra Bridger has been revealed following comments from Star Wars Rebels voice actor Taylor Gray.
After Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) referenced Grand Admiral Thrawn, a major villain from the series’ extended canon, fans have been anticipating more animated characters will make their live action debuts.
Ahsoka is the first animated character to be carried over into the Disney Plus series, and Gray’s comments have spurred speculation that another could make an appearance before The Mandalorian wraps up its second season.
Following the ambiguous conclusion of Star Wars Rebels, Taylor Gray confirmed his character, Ezra Bridger, is still alive, and could even make a cameo in this week’s finale.

He told Star Wars News Net: “Ezra is out there. Ezra is alive, which is nice.”
Gray revealed he has been having discussions with Dave Feloni, the creator of Rebels and one of the directors for Jon Favreau’s live action Star Wars series.
He recalled: “Dave confirmed that pretty quickly after the show was done. That was the question that remained with the finale. Thrawn is out there.
“Now we’re seeing with The Mandalorian… Everything in ‘Star Wars’ is tied together, everything is canon, which is cool.”
Last week’s Disney Investors Day confirmed an overwhelming new slate of Star Wars live action and animated shows coming to Disney Plus.
Among them was a solo project for Ahsoka Tano, who made her debut in The Mandalorian Chapter 13: The Jedi, directed by Filoni himself.
With more characters from Star Wars animated shows, video games and novels predicted to make an appearance, Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger is all but guaranteed to show up in live action.
Unfortunately, Taylor Gray warned viewers shouldn’t expect the long awaited rematch between Ezra and Thrawn to happen any time soon.

He continued: “I think they’re separated by now. When they went off, they were together.
“They’d be so strong if they weren’t at odds. Even if they weren’t friends or teamed up. Say they hadn’t separated. I mean, those two would wreak some havoc.”
Ahsoka confirmed she was searching for Thrawn during her appearance, which may lead to the two Jedi eventually crossing paths either in The Mandalorian, or Ahsoka’s upcoming series.
However, as voice actor Taylor Gray doesn’t bear much of a resemblance to the animated Jedi, he isn’t expected to reprise the role in live action.
Fortunately, Haunting of Bly Manor breakout Rahul Kohli has been heavily rumoured to be taking on the role, and the star has even been tweeting out support for the fan-casting.
Just one episode remains of The Mandalorian’s current instalment, though Jon Favreau and the Star Wars team are already deep into production for season three.
The Star Wars galaxy is set to expand exponentially, so, even if Ezra fails to appear in this week’s episode, there are still countless opportunities for more animated crossovers in the coming years.
The Mandalorian season 2 concludes Friday, December 18 on Disney Plus.
