Jermaine Jenas made a savage on air dig at his guest Peter Crouch – live on The One Show.

The 38-year-old presenter talked about when his former Spurs footballer pal Peter formed an unlikely musical bond with US rapper Nelly – with the pair performing together at Jermaine's engagement party in 2009.

Jermaine got engaged to his wife Ellie in 2009 – and they tied the knot in 2011.

However, as much as Jermaine rated Peter's striking ability on the football field, he didn't seem to take to his rapping skills, because he ripped into Peter right at the start of Wednesday's show (December 15).

Jermaine's co-star Sam Quek was introducing Peter said:" He even performed with – wait – rapper Nelly at Jermaine's engagement party… is that right?"

Jermaine looked uneasily at the camera before laughing and reassuring his viewers: "Well I promise he's not going to be rapping tonight…"

He added: "It's Peter Crouch!"

Former England star Peter burst out laughing before admitting: "Do you know, I'd forgotten that I did that."

Jermaine replied: "You know what? We haven't got time to go into the whole going on stage with Nelly story, tonight, let's be honest…"

He then swiftly moved on with the show, presumably before the show turned too chaotic.

After football, Peter launched his BBC podcast – That Peter Crouch Podcast – which he presents alongside Chris Stark and Tom Fordyce.

Last year, they bagged Prince William as a guest – and the episode was recorded at Kensington Palace.

Peter and the Duke of Cambridge teamed up on the mental health campaign – Heads Up – which aims to tackle mental health issues in the football community.

The pair recently met up at Peter's football club, Dulwich Hamlet, which Crouch has become a Director of.

Speaking about the campaign in the podcast, William said: "We all have mental health, and we all have to stay mentally fit… It's a strength to talk about your mental health, it's not a weakness."

"You know if you're not feeling well, something's bothering you, talk about it – it's not a problem."

The prince added that people don't talk about "mental fitness" enough.

"'I don't know what it is but guys find it a bit more difficult to relax. We talk about physical fitness, we all want to go to the gym and stay fit, but we never really talk about mental fitness, and it's the same thing."
