Facebook-owned app was out for many users in California
The third time isn’t the charm for Instagram, as the Facebook-owned app was down for many users on Tuesday; it’s the third service outage in slightly more than a month.
DownDetector.com, a site dedicated to tracking major outages, had about 10,000 reported issues between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. PST. Most of the reported issues stemmed from the northeast and Southern California, according to the site’s map.
Instagram did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on the outage or how long the issue is expected to last.
It’s not known what caused the outage, but Instagram issued its latest iOS update on Tuesday; the update contained “bug fixes and performance improvements,” according to the company.
Instagram also experienced a limited outage on July 3, and went down globally on June 13.
If it seems like major apps have had more issues in 2019 than in previous years, it’s because they have. Business Insider reported earlier this month that Instagram went down twice as much in the first six months of 2019 as it has in previous years, and that Facebook has experienced a nearly 300% surge in outages this year.
