An ‘ecosexual’ couple left viewers puzzled on This Morning when they celebrated ‘having sex with the earth’ on the show.

Beth Stevens and Annie Sprinkle, who are also a married couple, explained that being ecosexual ‘just means you enjoy taking pleasure with the earth.’

‘The simplest way to define it is that an ecosexual is someone who loves the earth,’ Beth explained.

Annie added: ‘We imagine that the earth is our lover and we enjoy all the sensual pleasures that the earth has to offer.’

‘It’s also a new movement,’ Beth continued. ‘It’s a term that people use to identify their preferences. So you can be ecosexual and also be heterosexual or homosexual, or even asexual, you don’t have to give up any of your identities.

‘It just means you enjoy taking pleasure with the earth and giving the earth pleasure as well.’

They went on to recall performing ‘grassilingus’ on the grass, with Dermot O’Leary suggesting it was too early in the day for such a conversation.

They said there’s a scale between, ‘eco-sensual, eco-erotic, and crazy wild eco’.

Alison Hammond suggested she and Dermot might be ‘eco-sensual’ as they enjoy activities in nature like swimming and walking.

Beth and Annie went on to say there was a debate in the ecosexual community about consent, for example if a tree consents to be hugged. However, they concluded that they can’t talk to the tree to check.

They also asked why ‘getting really intimate with a tree’ is taboo, but the destruction of rainforests is so widely accepted.

Beth and Annie have also made their love with the earth official, saying they have married the sky and the soil in various ceremonies.

They shared the joy that being ecosexual brings them, saying: ‘You can look at the sky and know you have a lover, you can walk in the grass and know you have a lover.’

However, others were less than impressed, with one more saying: ‘Why give airspace to these people…ecosexual….beyond ridiculous.’

Another added: ‘Who is out here s**gging the grass please.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
