McFly star and longtime pal to Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd, joined Alex Scott on Thursday’s The One Show to provide an update on how the Strictly Come Dancing star was doing. Tom will be forced to miss the second dance of the series on Saturday after he and partner Amy Dowden both tested positive for COVID-19. With Tom now isolating, Harry gave BBC viewers the latest from his camp.

Harry’s update came just moments into Thursday’s The One Show after co-host Alex Scott welcomed him back onto the famous green sofa and asked: “I know all the McFly fans are watching now,

“So the first question we have to go in with, we have to ask about your bandmate, Tom. How is he?

“Obviously we’ve seen the news from Strictly that he’s gonna miss this week,” Alex added before Harry jumped in: “Yes, he’s gonna miss Strictly,

“But he also missed the last three shows of our tour, Alex,” Harry revealed, prompting a shocked response from the BBC star.

“I know,” Harry continued. “I think he may have overdone it slightly.”

However, all is positive from Tom’s camp as Harry went on: “He’s fine, I spoke to him last night, he’s okay.”

And Harry couldn’t resist a pop at his pal’s withdrawal, cheekily commenting: “I have this theory that he’s just trying to avoid the Viennese Waltz, Alex.”

Alex let out a laugh as Harry concluded his update: “We’ll see, he will be back next week and yeah, it’s all good.”

The One Show’s Alex added: “Well, we wish them well, him and his partner Amy.”

Tom had taken to the Strictly dance floor for the opening week of the competition alongside 14 other celebrities.

However, after performing the Cha Cha, Tom and Amy found themselves on the receiving end of some rather disappointing scores.

Craig Revel-Horwood issued a lowly score of four, Motsi Mabuse followed with a seven, Shirley Ballas marked them as a five, while new judge Anton du Beke followed suit with another five.

By the time the rest of the celebs had performed, Tom and Amy sat in 12th place on the leaderboard with a score of 21, joint with Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin.

However, as a result of the positive Covid tests, Tom won’t be at risk of elimination in week two.

The news broke via the McFly Instagram page in a statement which began: “Unfortunately Tom is unwell and won’t be onstage with us tonight in Glasgow. Tom sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won’t see tonight.

“The show will still be going ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight!”

A second post confirmed: “Further to our last message we can now confirm that Tom has tested positive for Covid-19.

“He is now self-isolating and following the latest government guidelines.

“Please join us in wishing him a speedy recovery,” it finished before floods of supportive comments came in for the singer.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
