Vikings is a historical drama as it transports viewers back to the brutal world of Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel). Throughout the series, there were tons of merciless wars, however, none more villainous than the hatred between Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). Recently, fans of the History series have spotted a major plot hole in their relationship.

Season four of Vikings saw one of the most brutal deaths in the series, which all started because of Ragnar.

When fans are introduced to the warrior he is married to Lagertha who he shares two children with – Bjorn (Nathan O’Toole) and Gyda (Ruby O’Leary).

His wife was a fierce shield maiden and together the two were a dynamic duo of accomplished warriors.

Despite this, Ragnar had a wandering eye, which led him to step out on his marriage and have an affair with Aslaug.

After Ragnar becomes Earl of Kattegat, his seemingly happy relationship with Lagertha doesn’t last after she suffers a miscarriage.

This led him to question how many sons she would give him.

In previous episodes, the all-seeing Seer (John Kavanagh) looked into the future and told him he would have many sons.

While on a journey with King Horik (Donal Logue), Ragnar met a princess from Götaland, Aslaug, and the two had an affair which resulted in her becoming pregnant.

His son, Bjorn had accompanied him and told Lagertha about Aslaug when they returned to Kattegat.

After she confronted her husband, the two had an explosive argument which resulted in divorce.

With Aslaug now in Kattegat, he married her and together they have four sons.

Season four saw Lagertha make a return with her warriors to invade the city and take back what Aslaug took from her.

During the battle, Lagertha shot her with an arrow, killed her in front of everyone and ultimately became Queen of Kattegat.

However, one fan noticed a plot hole with their relationship and took to Reddit to expose it, writing: “So Lagertha kills Aslaug, why? Ragnar fd her once. ONCE, and she got pregnant.

“Ragnar didn’t send Lagertha away, he couldn’t send away a pregnant woman who carries his f*g child. Lagertha, instead of trying to salvage the marriage up and leaves,“ the user stated.

They explained: “If she stayed Ragnar might not have fathered further children with her many things could’ve played differently but she was the one that left.

“Everything that followed her leaving was the result of her idiotic decisions, it really makes no sense for her to hate Aslaug so much,” the fan concluded.

Another viewer agreed and wrote: “I agree with Lagertha/Aslaug, seemed a stupid storyline set up to me, for the subsequent civil war.”

Their hatred for each other ignited another war between Ragnar sons Bjorn and Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen).

Although they both had different mothers, many viewers believed the half-brothers may have gotten to know one another and possibly have become close if their hatred for each other didn’t start with Lagether and Aslaug.

In the end, Ivar ended up killing Bjorn during a war for power in season six.

Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to stream on History.
