Virgin River season four could be on the cards for Netflix after the success of the first three seasons. The romance drama has held a place in the streaming platform’s top 10 for many weeks and it continues to gain new fans with each season. Viewers are keen to know whether the series has officially been given the green light for season four.

Has Virgin River been renewed yet?

Virgin River is a popular drama series following nurse Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) as she makes a fresh start in a new town.

Season three saw her relationship with bar owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) hit rock bottom as they both wanted different things.

Mel was keen to try for another baby, but Jack was already getting his head around being the father of Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) twins.

The season three finale saw Mel reveal to Jack that she was pregnant, but she did not know who the father was.

Jack was just about to propose to Mel when she dropped the huge bombshell, following her trip back to LA.

She had visited a fertility clinic and seemingly started IVF treatment using sperm from her late husband, Mark (Daniel Gillies).

The series was left on a number of other cliffhangers as Preacher (Colin Lawrence) was left unconscious in the woods.

Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey) and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) also left their relationship hanging in the balance as Ricky considered joining the Marines.

The story is likely to continue for a long time, as Jack’s shooter is yet to be revealed.

However, the series has not officially been renewed by Netflix just yet, so fans shouldn’t get too excited.

Season two came out in November 2020, with the season three renewal being announced in December of that year.

The third season aired in July 2021, so in theory, the season four renewal should be happening any time now.

With August almost over, fans are starting to worry that Netflix is having second thoughts about renewing the series.

Back in June 2021, there were rumours that the show had secretly been renewed and filming had already started.

But sadly Netflix is yet to confirm the news that the next instalment is on the way.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss the show’s future, with one saying: “Why is Netflix taking so long to renew the series?

“Bad news coming soon? I really want season 4.” Some fans suggested plans were already underway for the next season.

One added: “They are doing some drone shots of Doc’s house (office) today in New Westminster, BC.”

Another said: “There is no official announcement, but it is in pre-production. They did the same with season three.

“Pre-production completely happened. Then production started. Then they made an announcement.”

One viewer suggested filming would wrap at the end of November 2021, but hopefully, fans would have heard something by then.

Another viewer added: “There is pre-production, production (aka filming), and post-production. Post-production is anything that takes place after the wrap of shooting.

“So part of pre-production is contract negotiations. So if they have any contract up for renewal they might not want to make an announcement till that is finalized and settled.

“So they will make the official announcement after pre-production occurs.”

With this in mind, it seems the show will definitely be returning at some stage.

Virgin River seasons 1-3 are on Netflix now.
