For many seasons, the cast of NCIS remained the same with Agent Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) running the show, with Agents Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) following in his footsteps. But everything started to change when Ziva decided it was time for her to leave, marking the beginning of the end for the original stars of the CBS show.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.
What season does Ziva leave NCIS?
At the end of series 10, Ziva left the country as NCIS was under threat from a terrorist group.
When season 11 begins in late 2013, Ziva is still nowhere to be seen which leads to Tony taking matters into his own hands.
He decides he needs to bring Ziva back himself and so in Past, Present and Future which originally aired on October 1, he travels to Israel.
Eventually, Tony does manage to track her down but unfortunately for him, he doesn’t get the response he was looking for.
Ziva tells Tony that she no longer wants to live the life of an agent, following the death of her dad.
Instead, she wanted to remain in her home country of Israel where she could start a new life there.
This meant cutting all ties with NCIS and Tony, leaving him heartbroken as he tried to convince her otherwise.
Sadly, she didn’t change her mind and Ziva and Tony parted ways in the second episode of series 11.
This ultimately led to Tony leaving NCIS himself as in the series 13 finale Family First, it is believed Ziva is killed in a mortar attack.
Tony then discovers that Ziva had his daughter Tali after they slept together just before she left for Israel.
He resigned as an agent and started a new life with Tali in Paris but their family was to be extended in series 17.
To everyone’s shock, Ziva didn’t die but was in hiding from terrorists in order to protect her loved ones.

Who is Kimberly Oja in NCIS? Who did she play? [EXPLAINER]
She only returned to the United States in the series 16 finale to give Gibbs a warning of a pending danger.
After the looming threat of Sahar was revealed to be his neighbour Sarah (Louise Barnes), Gibbs convinced Ziva it was time for her to be reunited with Tony and Tali.
She reluctantly made contact with her former colleague, thinking he would be furious with her but instead, Ziva was welcomed back with open arms.
The family of three are now all living together in Paris with NCIS getting updates on their new lives from time to time.
There has been no indication if Ziva and Tony will return to NCIS any time soon.
Actress de Pablo previously said she wouldn’t make a comeback but did reprise her role in season 17.
So there could be a chance of Ziva returning again in the future since fans now know she isn’t dead.
Does this mean a reunion with Ziva, Tony and Gibbs could be on the cards for season 19?
NCIS is available to watch on CBS.
