Who is Grace in Casualty and what happened to her in the helicopter crash?

Tonight’s Casualty will see the return of a familiar face, as Grace Beauchamp-Strachan (Emily Carey) makes her way back to the ED for the first time since 2017.

With Grace making a somewhat surprising return, we’re here to bring you a quick update on who this character is, and what happened to her during that brutal helicopter crash back in 2016.

Who is Grace?

Grace is Connie’s (Amanda Mealing) daughter and has been living with her dad Sam Strachan (Tom Chambers) in New York since she left Holby in 2017.

Connie and Grace’s relationship has been a difficult one. As Connie is hugely dedicated to her work, in the past she has often found it hard to connect with Grace, prioritising her patients lives over her spending time with her daughter.

What happened to Grace in the helicopter crash?

The helicopter crash back in 2016 was part of Casualty’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Before the crash, Connie and Grace were involved in a car crash. Once Iain (Michael Stevenson), Dylan (William Beck), Jacob (Charles Venn) and Jez (Lloyd Everitt) arrived, Grace was airlifted to safety and was flown to Holby ED in a helicopter.

However, when a drone collided with the helicopter, it crashed outside of the ED, causing Grace to sustain new injuries.

Grace’s life was left in danger and after countless operations, she finally woke from her coma.

After so much trauma, Connie discovered Sam had gone back to the US and taken Grace with him. Connie was left heartbroken that Grace had left her for a new life in the US.

As Connie’s feelings of guilt towards Noel (Tony Marshall) dying and relationship troubles with Jacob continuing, Grace’s arrival will no doubt cause a huge impact on Connie.
